THE EULAR TRANSFORMATION

A pan-European health alliance repositioned from a federation to a multi-stakeholder platform — across brand, digital, governance communications, and community architecture.

About the Organisation

EULAR, the European Alliance of Associations for Rheumatology, is Europe's foremost organisation in the field of rheumatic and musculoskeletal diseases, representing patients, health professionals, and scientific societies across 45 countries. In 2021, EULAR underwent a significant governance evolution: transitioning from the European League Against Rheumatism to a multi-stakeholder alliance model, connecting clinicians, researchers, patients, health professionals, young specialists, and industry partners under a unified structure.

The Oportunity

The structural shift required a full communications evolution in parallel — not a cosmetic rebrand, but a fundamental rearchitecting of how the organisation spoke to each of its stakeholder communities. A centralised brand framework was developed to give each community a distinct identity within a unified system, replacing the legacy model with clearly segmented communications for PARE (patients), HPR (health professionals), EMEUNET (young rheumatologists), and PAED (paediatrics). The digital ecosystem was restructured from a static repository into a service-driven platform, and the editorial and social architecture was redesigned to enable community-specific storytelling at scale.

The result was full brand consistency across six stakeholder communities, a record congress of 18,700 delegates from 130 countries, a 32% newsletter open rate, and measurable growth in education revenues and international partnership positioning.
